Post 3:
Frigg saw that her son was going to die when she saw the future. She catalogued all of the possible things that could kill him from disease to creatures to weapons. With the list, she made everything in the 9 worlds promise that no harm would come to her son. When Frigg had completed this, she came back to the God's meeting hall to celebrate her victory. The Gods decided to test Balder's new invisibility, using all the swords, hammers and clubs which bounced off of Balder. Loki seized the opportunity to create havoc. He dressed up as an old woman and asked Frigg if it was true that all things had taken an oath not to hurt Balder.

Frigg confessed that she did not ask mistletoe to take the oath.Loki then took a sprig of mistletoe and placed it in Hodur's hand.  Hodur was the blind brother of Balder.  Unknowingly, Hodur threw a dart that Loki had made with the mistletoe.  The dart struck Balder instantly killing him.  Frigg begged someone to go to the underworld and pay a ransom to bring back her son.  Hermond volunteered bravely to go recover Balder.  He took a voyage to the underworld, meeting Hel,(the Goddess of Death).  Her response to his plea was that if everything under heaven shed a tear for Balder he could return, but if one thing (living or dead) refused to cry or spoke against him he would remain in the underworld.  Thokk, an old hag,(presumed to be Loki in disguise) refused to weep for Balder thus he was stuck in the underworld.
